The Bible tells us to meditate on God’s Word, but have you ever wondered how to do this? This post gives practical tips on how to meditate on the Word of God.

For healing to take effect in your life you must allow the Word of God to settle into your heart and release it through your mouth. Meditating on scriptures relating to your situation is part of this process.

Meditation creates in you the reality of God’s Word. The scriptures become alive to you, and in you, as they are imprinted onto your heart.

Here are a few definitions of the word meditate

Meditate means: to utter, speak, attend to, to practice, to ponder, to imagine, exercise the mind, contemplate, deliberate, study, stare at or gaze at.

Contemplate is to think about, muse over, reflect upon, consider.

Meditate to Receive

1 Timothy 4:15

:15 Meditate on these things, give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all. (NKJV)

:15 “Practice and cultivate and meditate upon these duties, throw yourself wholly into them (as your ministry), so that your progress may be evident to all”. (Amplified Bible)

You are to attend to God’s Word, pay attention to it, give yourself entirely to it and practice it (do it). When you do, you will be able to see and experience the results you are believing God for.

This is the way I meditate on Scriptures:

1) I take one verse.

For example, Philemon 6 (KJV) which says: That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.

Other translations say “that the sharing or participation of your faith…”

I like the KJV, “communication”, which implies communicating or speaking out your faith, or saying it, not necessarily to others, most of the time we speak it say it to ourselves.

2) I then meditate on the verse

This means pondering or thinking about it and saying it out loud ( or quietly to myself). Like this:

“The communication (or speaking out) of my faith becomes effective as I acknowledge, or am aware of, and receive every good thing which is in me in Christ Jesus. Healing is one of the good things and so, I acknowledge His healing anointing or power in my body. (I may name a specific part of my body that needs healing). I take it as mine.”

I will say this to myself constantly, think about it (meditate on it) and get a picture in my mind of God’s healing power in me. Doing so gets God’s Word into my heart. As I do this, I become acquainted with the verse and the reality of the good things God has given me in Christ, in this case healing, sinks in. It causes faith to receive to rise up within me.

This needs to be done constantly and consistently, and not just now and then.

When to Meditate

A good time to meditate on healing scriptures is while you are doing something. When I do my exercise routine at the gym, I take the opportunity to take a few healing scriptures and meditate on them, as I am not doing anything with my mind. This fills my mind with the Word of God and so, I am renewing my mind to the Word while exercising my body.

The Word on your mind

Romans 12:2

:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. (NKJV)

It is very easy to clutter your mind with things you are involved with each day, a lot of which are unnecessary, and omit thoughts pertaining to your relationship with the Lord and with His Word. You have to, therefore, make a conscious decision to change this pattern of thinking, especially if you are believing God for healing or some other situation in your life.

When you are facing a crisis in your life, like sickness or disease, it is not always necessary to have someone else pray for you. You can go to the Word of God, find the scriptures relating to your situation and “apply” them to your own body, as you would apply (take) medicine prescribed by a doctor for your illness.

Follow the Instructions

There are instructions to follow when taking the medication and these must be followed daily in order for it to take effect. Often you don’t see the complete result after only one, two or three applications, you need to complete the course of treatment.

So it is with meditating on God’s Word. You have to follow the instructions laid out in the Bible and do what the Word of God says continually.

Joshua 1:8 (NKJV) tells us: “This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall you make your way prosperous, and then you will deal wisely and have good success”.

Some Scriptures to Meditate on

Here are a few scriptures which will help you meditate on the Word of God for your healing:

1 John 5:14-15 (NKJV): Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.

You know that the Lord hears you as healing is His will and so you can be confident that He will give you what you ask Him for.

Isaiah 55:11 (NKJV): So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but will accomplish what I please and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

Put God’s Word in your mouth and make it your own and as you speak it out, believing it, it will accomplish what you send it out for.

Conclusion

So you can see, from what has been discussed above, meditating on the Word of God is a vital part of receiving your healing. As you find the relevant scriptures, pay attention to them, think about them, speak them out, reflect upon them, practice them and consider them continually. The Word of God will become real to you and become a part of you as you see yourself becoming what each scripture says. Following this process will help you receive what you are believing God for.
