Understanding Prophecy
Prophecy is an important subject to understand and flow in. We should have the prophetic operating in churches. The Bible talks a lot about prophecy, so we should have scriptural understanding as we flow in the prophetic.
Not ignorant
When writing about these things, Paul stated that we are not to be ignorant. Ignorance includes being misinformed or wrong in our thinking and leads to error and deception. While prophecy should flow in a Christian environment, we should also ensure we are flowing in the true prophetic from God.
Teaching about Prophecy
Teaching from God’s Word about prophecy is essential. This is the start of a series on Flowing in Prophecy: Psalms, Hymns and Spiritual Songs.
By looking at the subject, we want to encourage the flow of prophecy enabling beleivers to walk in this amazing manifestation of the Spirit of God, but also bring solid Word based teaching about the subject.
Flowing in Prophecy: Psalms, Hymns and Spiritual Songs #1
In this first Bible study, Owen discusses the difference between words that flow from our hearts (spirit) from the Spirit of God and words spoken out of our own head or intellect. In order to prophesy, we need to tap into the words the Holy Spirit gives us in our hearts and recognise the difference between our heads and our spirits.
Words inspired by the Holy Spirit
Speaking from our hearts can be done in many contexts. In this teaching, I use teaching as an example. It is possible to teach sermons from our own head and intellectual preparation without even connecting to the Spirit of God. These intellectual sermons may be polished and appeal to people’s minds, but they lack anointing and the flow of the Spirit. Too often, intellectual sermons dominate in many churches.
However, when we teach sermons inspired by the Spirit, these will inspire faith and feed people spiritually. We can either rely on our minds or our spirits when we teach. This is an imporant lesson for any Bible teacher to learn.
Each Believer has something
1 Corinthians 14 shows that when Christians come together, each has something from the Lord. As part of this series, we will talk about bringing what is on your heart.
